TC Fresh Starts, Big Dreams, Safer Streets  New Year’s Resolutions It’s that time of year again. People make noble promises to improve their lives and the lives of those around them. Whether it’s to choose the bike over the car, to eat better, or to create safer streets as part of the lofty goal of saving lives, any resolution worth making is worth accomplishing. So why do 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail each year? Eight Miles a Day The most common mistake with resolutions is that resolve isn’t quite enough. No matter how strong your resolve to jog 8 miles a day despite your sedentary lifestyle, chances are it isn’t going to happen. And there’s a good reason for that. One of the most common reasons people fail at New Year’s resolutions is that they are overly ambitious when they feel inspired, and then overwhelmed when inspiration passes. Dream Big, Start Small The most effective way to create real, ongoing change is with small, incremental change. Small changes are less exciting, but they’re a lot more approachable. Resolve to make every street in your city safer or stop every driver from speeding and chances are slim that you’ll get anywhere. Add radar signs to alert speeding drivers on streets with the top 5 speeding concerns, and you’re already on the way to a safer 2017. What's Small for You? Every person and every city has a different starting point as the New Year begins. A city with no traffic calming program in place and one with a citywide infrastructure have different steps to take to work toward big change. Nature and Traffic Calming

New Season, New Roads Every season has its own energy and each brings its own beauty to the landscape around us. In turn, each presents unique challenges  for safe driving, riding, and walking on local streets. From summer beach-traffic clogged roadways to autumn leaf covered lanes, and from snowy winter streets to wet spring pavement, every season’s roads are unique. The FHWA reports over 1 million crashes caused each year by weather related road conditions. Being aware of what to be careful for and what nature, and other drivers, have in store, can help you protect your roads, no matter the season. Seasonal Challenges Everyone knows winter driving  can be tough. Snow, ice, and slushy pavement cause 44% of weather-related crashes. Even savvy winter drivers with well equipped cars have to share the roads with many others who aren’t. Autumn brings changing weather, wet road surfaces, heavy winds, shorter daylight hours, and more student pedestrians and cyclists headed to and from school while spring often means wet or even slushy pavement. Rain causes 46% of weather related crashes while wet pavement causes a whopping 73% of such accidents. No season offers foolproof driving. Mother Nature Just when Mother Nature’s surprises seem to have subsided and beautiful sunny summer days lie ahead, new challenges are in store for drivers. More drivers are on the roads during the summer than any other months, increasing the probability of any one person being involved in an accident. In fact, July and August are among the highest of the year for fatal crashes. Perhaps part of the cause of this is that nature offers little traffic calming in the summer. In the fall, spring, and winter, the rain, slippery roads, and snow remind drivers of their limitations. In summer, when anything seems possible, caution can fall to the wayside. Keeping People Safe and Aware No matter the weather conditions and the traffic calming that nature has in mind, it’s the responsibility of cities to engineer roads that encourage safe driving. Whether that involves narrower roads, bicycle lanes, speed humps, or traffic circles, roads that are designed for slow driving are more likely to be safe for all those who use them. Solutions such as speed display signs can be powerful tools to remind drivers to slow down and be alert to weather issues, or other temporary concerns, that may affect the safety of their drive. Mother nature can be fickle. Road safety shouldn’t be.

Traffic Logix - The Webinar Series

Traffic Logix concluded the webinar series on tools for your traffic calming toolbox with a recap of vertical traffic calming solutions and a thorough discussion of driver feedback signs, bike lanes, shared spaces, and the many other traffic calming techniques used on today’s roadways.

Presented by former ITE president Tim Harpst, the webinar not only delineated the traffic calming solutions that you can use to protect your streets, but included an interactive question and answer session with some of your most pressing questions about traffic calming.

Traffic Logix Launches Two New Radar Speed Signs and a New Display Trailer

SafePace 700 Sign

Traffic Logix unveiled two new speed display signs and a new trailer several weeks ago, perpetuating the company's commitment to providing a complete toolbox of traffic calming solutions. The SafePace 700 radar sign is similar to the existing SafePace 600 feedback sign, offering two lines of customizable text or graphics and bright LED digits. The SafePace 700 sign offers the advantage of extra large 18" digits, which provide improved visibility and are ideal for higher speed applications.

SafePace 800 Sign

The SafePace 800 is a full matrix LED sign offering exceptional versatility. The sign can be used vertically or horizontally, to display speeds, feature messages, and/or present a graphic or animated image. The dynamic sign can be used both as a message board and a speed display sign and can display up to four rotating messages based on scheduling or driver behavior.

Both of the new SafePace signs include all the features of the full size Traffic Logix SafePace signs such as flashing digits and strobes, stealth mode to collect data, user friendly management software, and optional data collection and solar power.

SafePace Cruiser LT

The signs can be displayed on poles or on the new SafePace Cruiser LT Speed Trailer. The Cruiser LT can be deployed in moments and is an economic solution for calming traffic on multiple streets. The trailer can be rotated in any direction to ensure that your sign can always face traffic regardless of how your Cruiser LT trailer is parked. A simple crank system raised and lowers the included speed limit sign for quick set up and transporting.
